BIOGRAPHY
HARVEST FLY started out as a real band. I guess you could say we're still a real band, we just have two members. But, back when we were in middle school, the Pill and a few of his friends from school decided to start a band. The Pill played guitar, his friend Mr. Jesus played drums, and some other guys I don't know filled out the bass and 2nd guitar slots. None of them could play and sing at the same time, so I (the Pill's friend since an early age) was asked to be the vocalist. I've never had any vocal training, and I can't sing very well, but he told me to sound like James Hetfield, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Time passed. Band members came and went, until the only
remaining members were the Pill and I. We continued on for a while, writing
and recording some pretty bad music. At the end of our freshman year of high
school, a friend introduced me to a band called Deicide. It was like nothing
I had ever heard before. Up until that point, the heaviest music we had heard
was Metallica and Megadeth, and Nirvana. But now we had death metal to influence
our fragile little minds.
Our new taste in music had a dramatic effect on our writing
style. Our songs became heavier and more intense, and the lyrics became morbid
tales of death and murder. This changed sound brought about another change.
We threw out our old name and brainstormed on some new names until we came
up with something more personal: HARVEST FLY.
HARVEST FLY's music hasn't always followed the death
metal rules. While most of our music has been heavy and evil sounding, some
of our songs are soft acoustic ballads (about mutilation) and even a rap
song or two (about mutilation). Instead of boring metal songs that all sounded
the same, our early demos had the variety we believed was missing from the
death metal genre.
Over the past couple of years, we haven't done much.
We've started writing albums, but they've never gone anywhere (check out
our discography for the projects that never were). Even with different
musical projects, jobs, women, and conflicting daily schedules, we still
find some time every once in a while to write and record new music.
Usually once a year, we'll hit you with some new shit. Stay
tuned.
